Clisby Engineering Pty Ltd is a broad-based engineering company located in Adelaide South Australia, with group supply chain access to production facilities in Queensland, Malaysia, China and Indonesia.
Clisby is well known for its compressed air technology commencing operations in 1945 and remaining today as a manufacturer and services supplier of specialized equipment and machines in a variety of flows and pressures to a selection of industry sectors.
The Australian operations and capabilities centre around industrial, food, dental and the oil and gas sectors where the compression products and services for industrial applications include oil free and oil flooded compressors in both fixed and variable speed, process dryers, air filtration and pressure vessels. Additionally, for the Oil and Gas division, the company extends to separators, pipe spools, water filtration, wellhead compression, down hole casing and composite flow line supply.
Clisby is totally committed to safety, high quality products, reducing its carbon footprint and protecting the environment.
The enterprise of Clisby was as a result of a very entrepreneurial self-trained engineer called Harold Clisby who was working at General Motors Holden under Sir James Holden, where the business had been focussed on the war effort engaged in munitions and munition handling equipment and upon the cessation of war in 1945, Harold left Holden and started Clisby Industries, a new company that was to become a pioneer in many engineering projects, the most commercial of which was a single cylinder air compressor that was quickly followed by a twin, the concept was heavy duty, long lasting, high efficiency and upscale by repeatability of components.
Clisby prospered and a new range of compressors with aluminium high-pressure components was introduced in the 50's, while at the same time Harold designed, cast and machined the aluminium heads for the Brabham Repco BT24 Engine of Sir John (Jack) Brabham AO OBE Formula One racing car that went on to win three world championships. This new design and amazing event created massive publicity and inspired Harold to design a lightweight but robust series of compressors under the SE series. This range although modified over the years remains an industry standard for high quality and high efficiency compression and the choice of many commercial and private users over just about every business segment. Clisby continues to manufacture and build compressor at Athol Park, South Australia.
Clisby was always innovating and its most progressive and daring project was designing and building Australia's only V6 F1 engine that was a full aluminium design, quad overhead cams, twin ignition and very similar to what Enzo Ferrari designed and named after his son Dino. The Clisby V6 raced in 1967 in an Elfin some five years later than it ideally should have, the market was getting lots of international attention and investment and it was quickly accepted that the design was brilliant in 1961 but old by 1967 and it was thought best not to pursue a dream against Ferrari who had gone past a V6 and was already racing a V8.
Clisby was the type of engineering shop that allowed Harold to pursue projects of interest while the real business was pushing out air compressors, projects such as a hovercraft, a radial engine, radial air compressor, watchmakers lathe and mill and a huge variety of model steam trains all added to the intrigue and respect to the brand of Clisby, which is still strong, still innovative and now a much larger operation.
Clisby Industries Pty Ltd was sold in 1985 and later became Clisby Engineering Pty Ltd, a business that has grown over the years to include factories in Malaysia and Indonesia as well has having fabrication plants in South Australia and Queensland.
Members of The Euroair Group commenced operations in 1990 and is now an established manufacturer and fabricator of Air Compressors, Pressure Vessels, Industrial Equipment and Storage Tanks. Our company specialises in design and fabrication and in EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) works for the Oil & Gas, Infrastructure and Industrial Sector.
